Zurich

Zurich is Switzerland’s largest city and the hub of culture, history, and innovation. There’s so much to see and do in Zurich that it can be hard to know where to start, but in this blog post, we’ll take you through a perfect day in Zurich, filled with some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, delicious food, and stunning views. People do mistake Zurich as the capital of Switzerland.

I started my journey early in the morning to Zurich and a few minutes before reaching Zurich along the German border, one can get a magnificent view of the Rhine Falls. (Excuse for the quality as it was taken from the train)

I had limited time to explore the Old Town and the famous Bahnhofstrasse before I entered Lindt Chocolate Factory.

Bahnhofstrasse is the central downtown of Zurich and one of the world’s most expensive and exclusive shopping alleys. Paradeplatz, one of the most famous squares in Switzerland, is situated towards the end of the Bahnhofstrasse closest to Lake Zürich, lined with chocolatiers.

From Bahnhofstrasse, I took the exit to walk along Lake Zurich before visiting the two famous landmarks- Grossmünster and Fraumünster churches. Walk along Lake Zurich is recommended and on a sunny day, it is crowded with tourists and locals alike. I spinned up my newly adapted 1960’s Carl Zeiss Lenses. Though very old, the optics are still wonderful.

One can climb the 187 steps to the top of Gtossmunster’s tower to get some magnificent views of the lake and its surroundings.

If you are planning to travel to Lindt Chocolate factory from here, you need to walk for 10 minutes to reach the Bus / Tram stop at Bürkliplatz and bus 165 to Kilchberg which is 2 minutes away from the chocolate factory. Else one can get to the main station and take S8/S24 to Kilchberg station and a ten-minute walk to the Lindt Home of Chocolate. The way to the factory is well-marked and one cannot miss the turns.

Note: Do get the tickets in advance as the queue gets longer as time passes.

Lindt Home of Chocolate

The ticket costs 15€ and is worth every penny. One can taste different chocolates for an unlimited time and there is no time limit on the ticket. You can also test your sense of taste with the chocolate taste challenge and guess the different flavours included in the piece of chocolate bars.

At the end of the tour, you get to taste different flavours and beware not to put the chocolates into your pockets as these are just for tasting. The museum has a big store downstairs where one can buy the confectionaries.

A sweet tooth myself, I had the best time of my life surrounded by different varieties of sweets and had the chance to learn about the history of Lindt. Thanks to the founder of Lindt- Rudolph Lindt for giving us a premium delicacy and the Swiss government for a premium experience.

FIFA Museum

After indulging in some chocolate, I headed to the FIFA Museum, a must-visit destination for football fans. The museum showcases the history of the beautiful game, with exhibits featuring iconic players, historic matches, and the latest technology that is shaping the future of football. Visitors can explore the museum’s interactive exhibits and learn about the evolution of the sport from its early days to the present.

My day in Zurich had come to an end and I was ready to board to my next destination, Luzern.

Conclusion

This enchanting city seamlessly marries the beauty of nature with the allure of urban sophistication, resulting in a destination that appeals to a diverse range of travellers. From the picturesque landscapes that stretch along the shores of Lake Zurich to the architectural marvels that adorn the city’s skyline, every corner of Zurich offers a unique glimpse into a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity.
